Corsets and the love we have for them

CorsetsI have a serious obsession with corsets,it was the most interesting garment that woman wore through the years. Today we know corsets to be fashionable, and  good waist shaping devices in some cases. Corsets hayday or most interesting period was from the 1820 to about the 1910. During this time it was a necessary undergarment, women had no opinion and you were definetly not thinking about the style of it but more importantly that they couldn't breathe.  Reading up on the history definetly made me feel for those women. Eventually corsets were done away with, women took a stand in the 20's and decided they are in control of what they do with their bodies They dressed boyish and didn't care for a small waist. Years passed, icons were born, wars passed and designers of 50's took inspiration from the 1910's and brought back the corset look. Mainly the house of Christian Dior. The corset/girdle had returned and were definetly in vogue. Women wanted that perfect Hollywood hourglass figure that was portraying and they wanted to feel ladylike again which they had been deprived in the war because of this
need the girdle consumerism was flourishing. The fitted, clean, tiny-waisted look became the norm once again. The girdle was constructed out of nylon and latex rubber and provided a form outline. These corsets were miracles of modern engineering with planned panels being placed in order to flatten the stomach to give a flat line and also flatten the bottom. Today as I said before it's your choice if you want to embrace the look or not. They also have corsets that  don't tighten but give the illusion of a small waist and i love them. Designers like Jean-paul Gaultier , Dior, Chanel, Dsquared, Elie Saab  e.t.c have been inspired by corsets for many of their collections today.
